A Brief History of Massage
Massage is considered to be one of the oldest of all the treatments used by man. Chinese records dating back 3000 years documented its use. The ancient Hindus, Persians & Egyptians used forms of massage for some ailments and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. Today, massage is an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs and has proven beneficial to many chronic conditions such as low back pain, arthritis and bursitis. Massage helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living.

How can Massage benefit me?
Massage provides relief to people from all walks of life – the weekend or competitive athlete, the home gardener and the overstressed executive struggling to keep pace in today’s economy. Secretaries, laborers, servers – anyone can feel a need for a massage at some point. The older population can benefit from massage as it enhances flexibility and circulation and relieves aches and pains. There are a few conditions where massage is not recommended so please check with your doctor first.

What to expect during a massage.
On your first visit we will ask you to complete a short questionnaire on your general health, and discuss your needs and make up a plan tailor made for you. You will then be shown to the therapy room where you will be left alone while you undress and get onto the table under the sheets and blankets. During 30 minute treatment you will have specific areas worked on . During 1 hour treatment the neck, back, hands, feet, arms and legs will be worked on. Some range of motion stretching for stiff joints may also be done. Breasts and genitals will NEVER be touched. You will be covered by sheets at all times for warmth and privacy. The pressure desired and required is done on an individual basis. Light cream or oils will be used to prevent friction.
